The NHTSA Gives 2020 Hyundai Tucson Top Safety Honors

Sometimes, wraparound protection and ultimate peace of mind come in compact SUV packages. Such is the case for the new Hyundai Tucson. After recent crash testing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded it an overall safety rating of five stars. That means a stellar five stars for front and side crash resistance and a laudable four stars for rollover resistance.

What drove the accolade? None other than a new suite of available active safety and driver-assistance features, aptly named Hyundai SmartSense.

  • For one, the system's Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist feature employs a front-facing camera and radar to notify you of an imminent collision and, if necessary, activate automatic braking to help avoid or mitigate the impact.
  • Secondly, it features a Lane Keeping Assist system that can sense road markings and help prevent unintentional deviation from them, providing automatic steering feedback if needed.
  • Third, Driver Attention Warning keeps an eye on your driving patterns. It can detect drowsiness or inattention and alert you accordingly with audible and visual warnings.

Of course, 2020 Hyundai Tucson has plenty of other safety technologies to safeguard your ride, including blind-spot collision and rear cross-traffic warnings, a surround-view monitor, pedestrian detection, and smart cruise control with stop & go. Together, they can help keep you apprised of oncoming traffic, situationally aware, at safe distances from other vehicles, and clear of accidents.
