Apple Carplay and Android Auto both have the same goal: they are designed to make driving on the road safer while not compromising driver entertainment. It's no secret that a cell phone can distract drivers. Whether you're checking directions, trying to make a call, or changing music, it's easy to get distracted and lose sight of the road. Apple and Android both sought to change that by developing their respective auto apps that aim to eliminate such distractions. They do this by connecting your phone to your car's display and allowing you to focus on the road while managing your phone via the car's display. You can use the touch screen, voice control, or even the dials and knobs on the car display.

How Apple Carplay and Android Auto Work

Both apps work similarly. All you have to do is connect your phone to the display, either through a cord or BlueTooth, and then you are free to enjoy and use all the features of your phone without having to ever look at it. Need to add a stop to your trip? With Apple Carplay, simply hold voice control on your steering wheel and tell Siri what you want. Immediately, your stop is added. If you missed a call from mom, use Google voice to say "Call Mom" and then your car becomes the phone. Other apps can be used as well; use the touch display to switch albums in Spotify or the dial to pick an audiobook through Audible. You lose none of your entertainment or navigation all while being able to pay attention to the road. For a list of usable apps, check out the Apple Carplay and Android Auto websites.

Extended Uses of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

The uses of Apple Carplay and Android Auto exceed simple instructions. Both apps can intuitively use your phone's texts, calls, and emails to help guide you along your journey. For example, let's say you just texted your spouse that you're heading to the local farmers market. Apple Carplay can use that text to upload directions to the farmer's market without you ever having to input directions. Android Auto does the same. It's just another way of making driving about driving again.

Improved Safety Features

With a rise in accidents resulting from negligent driving, more and more vehicle manufacturers are pushing to make driving more focused and attentive. As a result, Apple Carplay and Android Auto are compatible with more and more manufacturers. Most newer models will be able to use these apps to improve driving conditions for everyone on the road. Most countries support these apps, giving you the opportunity to travel the world safely.
