Compare the new Hyundai Tucson to the new Kia Sportage

Hyundai Tucson vs Kia Sportage

As a new Hyundai dealer serving drivers from Wyomissing to Shillington, we know that our guests are incredibly discerning when it comes to shopping for new cars. That's why we always strive to keep an eye out not just for the best new Hyundai models to suit our guests needs and tastes, but also for comparable competitor models.

For example, one of the most popular new small SUVs available at our Reading, PA showroom is the new Hyundai Tucson. It's long been heralded as one of the most attractive vehicles out there for daily commuters, but it's also faced some stiff competition from rivals like the Kia Sportage. Fortunately, we think that when you look closely at what both these models offer, you'll see that the new Hyundai Tucson is the clear winner overall. And to help you explore that, we've prepared a brief competitive breakdown between the two models.

Performance

On the performance front, both the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage start off on roughly even footing. Both come outfitted with standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines that produce twin outputs of up to 187 horsepower. And while that's more than enough for most day-to-day driving in the greater Limerick area, if you're looking for a bit more brawn in your small SUV, there's only one way to get it. The new Hyundai Tucson can be upgraded with a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine and an electric motor that are good for up to 226 horsepower on demand. As for the Kia Sportage, you'll have to be satisfied with its standard horsepower, as it does not offer an upgraded engine in its powertrain lineup.

Of course, you might expect that more power for the Hyundai Tucson means that it takes a hit on fuel economy. Fortunately, that's not the case. With its available hybrid electric powertrain, the new Hyundai Tucson is good for up to an EPA-estimated 38 mpg city / 38 mpg highway. By comparison, the Kia Sportage only achieves an EPA-estimated 25 mpg city / 32 mpg highway.

Interior

As small SUVs, the new Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage offer space for up to five, but they're best suited to solo commuters, couples, and small families on the move throughout the greater Wyomissing area. That said, while their capacity may be the same, the cabin quality differs between the new Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage.

For example, if you're wondering which of these two SUVs can haul more luggage overall, that'd be the new Hyundai Tucson. With up to 80.3 cubic-feet of luggage space in total, the Hyundai Tucson easily eclipses the Kia Sportage with just 74.1 cubic-feet of luggage space.

Technology

On the tech front, the new Hyundai Tucson easily surpasses the offerings of the Kia Sportage. For example, while both offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, only the Hyundai Tucson allows you to use these connectivity technologies wirelessly right from its entry level trim.

But perhaps our favorite feature of the new Hyundai Tucson is its available Hyundai Smart Key system, which allows you to make a digital clone of your key on a connected compatible smartphone, allowing you to lock, unlock, and start your car without the need for your key fob. Additionally, you can even create a temporary key clone to send to a friend, allowing you to loan your Hyundai Tucson to friends and family if need be. You won't find such features available on the new Kia Sportage.
